Dr. Koliwad is an endocrinologist who specializes in diabetes, obesity and other metabolic disorders and conditions linked to metabolism. He serves as chief of UCSF’s endocrinology and metabolism division.
Dr. Koliwad directs a research lab focused on the intersection of nutrition, inflammation and metabolic tissue function in healthy patients as compared with those with conditions such as obesity, diabetes and fatty liver disease. Also examining how these factors change during aging, his lab studies a diverse group of UCSF obesity patients with the goal of finding links between metabolic regulation and development of these diseases.
Dr. Koliwad holds the Gerold Grodsky, PhD Chair in Diabetes Research.
